Reporting to the Executive Director, the newly created position will be responsible for all aspects of program management, growth and development. In this capacity the Director will also lead a management team to support this work across the organization.

The successful candidate for this role will have at the minimum the following skills:

  • Program oversight – managing programs effectively and delivering great service to our vulnerable sector clients
  • Program development – continuing to improve our programs and identifying opportunities to develop new programs
  • Contract management – putting processes in place to support programs in achieving contract deliverables and deliver on the outcomes and results required by funders
  • Innovation and efficiencies – identifying opportunities to increase organizational efficiency including policy development and system and process improvements
  • Leadership – supporting and overseeing the management team as they execute on program delivery and motivate staff
  • Funding opportunities – working with community partners and stakeholders to research and secure new sources of funding for existing and new JHS programs, including grant and proposal writing
  • Executive Director Support – supporting the Executive Director in their organizational and capacity building activities and acting as the organizational leader in the absence of the Executive Director

Qualifications

  • University degree in the Business Management, Leadership, or Project Management, or a combination of equivalent related education and a minimum of 3-5 years of senior leadership experience including performance management
  • Experience working with or a strong understanding of serving vulnerable populations including those with mental health, addictions, and developmental disabilities
  • Computer savvy with advanced expertise in MS office suite

Requirements

We require a criminal records and vulnerable sector check as well as someone with a Class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle. Other than exemptions for medical or religious reasons, vaccination is a condition of employment for working with the John Howard Society in light of the public nature of their work and the vulnerable populations they serve.

Remuneration

Annual Salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Includes RRSP contributions and competitive medical and dental benefits

On-Call Residential Support Worker

The John Howard Society of Victoria is seeking someone who would enjoy the opportunity to assist in the reintegration to community of men who have been incarcerated. The person in this role is responsible for monitoring and supporting the folks in our residential program. This is an on-call position for day, evening and overnight shifts and potential shifts on weekends and statutory holidays.

We are looking for someone with patience, compassion, insight, and good judgment. By establishing positive communication and rapport with each resident you’ll be encouraging them to participate in exchanging information with other staff related to resident concerns. In this role you’ll also direct residents to appropriate resources programs and liaise with community organizations to attending to general housekeeping duties in the residence as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Someone with a passion for and interest in working with vulnerable populations
  • Relevant education (Criminology, Corrections, Social Work) or experience working with the reintegration of men with addictions and/or mental health issues
  • An understanding of the use of authority in supervision and the ability to intervene effectively in crises
  • Experience with computer programs including Excel and Word
  • We require a criminal record and a Correctional Services of Canada Enhanced Security Check.
  • Emergency First Aid is an asset, but we will train the right candidate.

This is a residential program and the successful candidate will be working in-residence. We are looking for a non-judgmental person who is a good listener, has the ability to defuse intense situations, and is a patient, supportive communicator. By establishing positive communication and rapport with each resident you’ll be encouraging them to participate in programs and exchanging information with other staff related to resident concerns.

In this role you’ll also liaise with community organizations to direct residents to appropriate resources. You’ll also conduct recurring self-audits of the residential programs and prepare reports for submission. There are also general administrative duties and the monitoring of security systems, cameras and curfews as well as attending to general housekeeping duties in the residence as necessary.

As the Youth Program Manager (Student Life Manager), you’ll be responsible for managing the student program at Rock Solid and supporting 8+ Youth Care Workers as they do “life on life” ministry with the teens in our program. You’ll be responsible for planning and organizing activities, student intakes and onboarding, building relationships with Youth Care Workers and the students, tracking student progress and dealing with the challenges that arise as they navigate the requirements of the program and act as a mentor and leader in the program. You’ll be part of our leadership team and will contribute to the overall success and effectiveness of our organization.

As one of the teachers you’ll be responsible Complete all administrative and teaching requirements from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education. Under the Direction of the Education Manager, you’ll be working in the classroom, teaching grades 7 through 12 to delivery approved Saskatchewan Ministry of Education curriculum. In addition, you’ll be liaising with parents and previous schools to assess students’ academic levels and develop an education plan that will move them toward a grade 12 diploma.
